Encorely

Privacy policy

Encorely keeps a book of the concerts you were at. The book is yours and it stays on your device: the app collects nothing about you. There is no account, no server, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking of any kind. That is not a policy we are choosing to follow, it is what the software does. The app is written in eight languages; this document is in English, which is the version that governs it.

What we collect

Nothing about you. Encorely has no server of its own and makes no network requests while you use it. It does not read your contacts, location, camera, microphone, photos or files, and it asks for no permission that would let it.

That is enforced rather than promised: the Android app is built without the internet permission, so it has no way to send anything anywhere even if a later version wanted to. The one thing that involves anyone else at all is a purchase, and that is Google's transaction rather than ours. See Purchases below.

What is stored, and where

Everything you enter is saved on your own device, in the app's or the browser's local storage, under the key encorely.v1. That is the whole of it:

It never leaves your device. We cannot see it, and neither can anyone else.

Two things follow from that, and both are worth knowing:

You can take a copy at any time from More then Take a copy, which hands you the whole book as text through your device's own share sheet, and you can put a copy back the same way. You can erase the book yourself from More then Empty the book, or by clearing the app's data in your device settings.

Permissions

The Android app asks for one permission: billing (com.android.vending.BILLING). It is what lets the app talk to the Google Play Store app on your device, to sell Pro and to check whether a subscription is active. Your device grants it at install with no prompt, and it gives the app no access to your files, accounts, location or anything else.

There is no internet permission. The book is served from inside the app itself, and the one thing that involves a network, the payment, is carried out by the Play Store app under Google's permissions rather than this app's. In a browser, no permissions are requested at all.

Pasting a setlist reads your clipboard at the moment you paste, and not in the background. Nothing else is written to your clipboard except the copy you ask for.

Sound and haptics are made by the device itself and need no permission.

Purchases

The free book holds thirty nights, and the app tells you how many are left. Everything else is already free: every screen, every number, the year review, the export, all four themes and all eight languages. One subscription, Encorely Pro, takes the ceiling off and holds as many nights as you like. It is sold monthly or yearly and renews automatically until you cancel it.

Payment is handled entirely by Google Play. Google processes the payment and tells the app only whether an active subscription exists. We never receive your name, card details or address, and the app never sees them either. Google's handling of the transaction is covered by Google's own privacy policy. The price shown in the app is the one Google charges in your country.

You can cancel at any time from the subscriptions screen in the Play Store app. Cancelling stops the next payment, and when the period you have paid for ends the app returns to the thirty-night book with everything already written still in it. Refunds are handled by Google, under Google Play's refund policy.

Each time the app starts, and whenever you tap Restore a purchase, it asks Google Play whether a subscription is active. That question goes through the Play Store app and carries nothing about you beyond what Google already holds for your Play account. The answer is what the app trusts: it treats a subscription as active only when Google Play says so. The copy of that answer kept on the device is only ever a cache, and the next answer overwrites it.

Children

The app is suitable for all ages. Because it collects no personal data at all, it collects none from children. A subscription is a purchase and needs an adult's payment method, as any purchase on Google Play does.

Your rights

Laws such as the United Kingdom and European General Data Protection Regulation and the California Consumer Privacy Act give you rights over personal data held about you: to see it, to correct it, to delete it, or to receive a copy of it. We hold none, so there is nothing for us to show, change, hand over or erase. The book on your device is the only copy, and it is yours to keep, copy or delete from inside the app at any time. If you believe we hold something of yours, write to the address below and we will answer within a month.

Changes

If a future version ever collects anything, this page will say so plainly before that version ships, and the app will not be updated to collect data it does not disclose here.
